Algeria is actively deepening its international relationships on multiple fronts. Last week, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf signed a ceremonial agreement marking Algeria’s accession to the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia. In talks with his East Timorese counterpart, Attaf affirmed a shared commitment to strengthen friendship ties and coordinate on United Nations initiatives, especially in support of decolonization efforts worldwide. This move extends Algeria’s diplomatic reach and underscores its solidarity with global partners.
At the same time, Algeria is leveraging economic diplomacy to diversify trade. Algerian and Qatari ministers have been preparing a large Algerian products fair in Doha this autumn, explicitly aiming to elevate the level of trade to match their strong political ties. Officials agree that such events will give Algerian exporters unprecedented access to Gulf markets and help realize Algeria’s strategic goal of boosting non-hydrocarbon exports in the region.
These initiatives – from Asia to the Middle East – highlight Algeria’s expanding role on the world stage. By forging closer ties with partners from Asia to Africa to the Gulf, Algerian diplomacy is actively translating political goodwill into concrete economic and cultural cooperation.
Through new treaties and trade fairs, Algeria is turning international friendship into real economic and strategic partnerships.
