The Muslim World League (MWL) has voiced deep concern over what it described as the “systematic criminal violations” carried out by the Israeli occupation in Gaza, warning that the official confirmation of famine in the besieged enclave—according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC)—represents a shocking development for the international community.
A Direct Threat to Human Existence in Gaza
In a statement from its General Secretariat, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, stressed that the ongoing practices of the occupation government pose a direct threat to human existence in Gaza, while undermining all regional and international efforts to end the war and achieve a just and lasting peace.
Defying International and Humanitarian Law
Dr. Al-Issa emphasized that the “extremist government of the occupation” has blatantly disregarded all international and humanitarian laws and conventions. He urged the international community to uphold its moral and legal responsibilities by taking urgent action to end the famine and the “genocide” inflicted on the Palestinian people.
Call for Unified Global Action
The MWL renewed its call for a unified international response to stop the machinery of war and put an end to the occupation’s violations, ensuring the protection, dignity, and fundamental rights of civilians in Gaza.
Gaza at the Edge of Catastrophe
International reports have confirmed that Gaza has officially entered the famine stage, following months of war and blockade. According to the IPC assessment, hundreds of thousands of civilians—mostly women and children—are now at risk of starvation, with access to food and medicine rapidly vanishing amid the destruction of infrastructure and the collapse of health and humanitarian systems.
Global humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations and the World Health Organization, have described the crisis as “unprecedented”, warning that food insecurity in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels and that immediate intervention is vital to save lives.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have urged the international community to act decisively, denouncing what they termed the use of “starvation as a weapon of war” against civilians. They cautioned that the continuation of current conditions could lead to the total collapse of life in Gaza.
