Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has reshuffled the country’s executive leadership, signing a decree on Tuesday that brought an end to the tenure of Prime Minister Nadhir Larbaoui.
In the same move, Tebboune appointed Sifi Ghrieb as interim Prime Minister, entrusting him with the task of steering the government until a permanent successor is designated.
Ghrieb, who has been serving as Minister of Industry since November 2024, is a seasoned technocrat with deep roots in Algeria’s industrial sector. He holds a doctorate in physical chemistry of materials from the University of Badji Mokhtar in Annaba and has built his career at the helm of several major national enterprises, including the steel giant Sider and the metallurgy group Imetal. He also headed the Industrial University under the Ministry of Industry, cementing his reputation as both a scholar and an industry leader.
The appointment comes at a delicate political juncture, underscoring Tebboune’s reliance on experienced technocrats to ensure continuity in governance and maintain economic momentum.
