Algiers – On Friday, August 29, 2025, Algiers Province launched the seventh edition of its major cleanup campaign, targeting streets and neighborhoods across its 14 administrative districts under the slogan “Let’s cooperate a little to keep our neighborhoods clean.” The initiative saw participation from various specialized cleaning and environmental management institutions, as well as representatives of civil society and citizens, according to a statement.
The campaign, which will continue on Saturday, aims to eliminate black spots, remove debris, and clear domestic and other waste from the environment. Several public institutions contributed to the effort, including the Algiers Road Network Maintenance and Sanitation Corporation (ASROUT), the two public entities responsible for cleaning and waste collection in the capital (Extranet and Netcom), and the public entity tasked with environmental enhancement (ODIVAL), alongside civil society representatives.
Through this initiative, Algiers Province seeks to address black spots, clean residential areas, neighborhoods, and main streets, unclog drains and waterways, repair water leaks, maintain green spaces across all municipalities and neighborhoods, service secondary roads, and upkeep public lighting poles. Additionally, main roads will be adorned with artistic lighting.
The authorities of Algiers Province called on citizens to contribute to the campaign to ensure its success and achieve its objectives, noting that community involvement will facilitate identifying areas requiring cleaning and those needing inclusion in the initiative.
As in previous editions, several residential sites in the new city of Sidi Abdellah were included in the campaign. Various resources and equipment were deployed to streamline the operation, with strong participation from citizens and neighborhood committees, particularly in cleaning new areas where, according to residents, “random waste dumping occurs due to the lack of designated disposal sites.”
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Governor of Algiers, Abdelnour Rabhi, chaired a coordination meeting with the province’s executive body, during which a detailed presentation was given on the methods, mechanisms, material resources, and human resources allocated for the operation. He emphasized “the importance of ensuring the campaign’s success by involving stakeholders and civil society to achieve the desired goals.”
