The team, led by captain Riyad Mahrez, held their final training session at the Sidi Moussa Technical Center before traveling to Morocco on Sunday via a special flight. During the session, which lasted over an hour and a quarter and included all players, coach Vladimir Petković focused on technical and tactical aspects, refining strategies specific to the upcoming match. On Thursday, September 4, 2025, Algeria secured a 3-1 victory over Botswana at the Hussein Ait Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou in the seventh round of Group G qualifiers. Combined with Mozambique’s 4-0 defeat to Uganda, this win brought Algeria, led by top scorer Mohamed Amine Amoura, closer to securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup, set to be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States next summer. The victory widened Algeria’s lead at the top of Group G to six points, with 18 points, ahead of Uganda and Mozambique, both in second place with 12 points, while Botswana slipped to fourth with 9 points. For context, the winners of the nine groups will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. The top four second-placed teams will compete in a playoff organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with the winner advancing to an intercontinental playoff organized by FIFA.
