The Algerian Ministry of National Defense released a video on Thursday, September 11, 2025, highlighting the glorious history and achievements of the Algerian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea throughout the ages.
The ministry stated: “The Algerian Navy has inscribed its glories and prosperous history, a radiant maritime power that made it one of the influential forces in the Mediterranean, turning its ports into impregnable naval fortresses resistant to colonial ambitions.”
The ministry praised the valor of the men who “forged an immortal legacy with their fleets, ships bearing the flag high and fluttering, led by cannons and flying the banners of sovereignty.”
It affirmed that “the sea is not just a passage for trade, but a field for sovereignty, deterrence, and protection,” noting that this glory “was not born from arms alone but from the experience and leadership arts that distinguished the Algerian Navy.”
The ministry continued: “Today, with the same determination, our naval forces continue to safeguard this ancient heritage through modern military training programs and advanced curricula, which we experienced as a media team during 34 days of navigation in the high seas and oceans, reporting on the Summer 2025 training campaign aboard the sailing ship of the -Navigator- School, one of the foremost strongholds of modern training in our People’s National Army.”
This video not only celebrates the Algerian Navy’s storied past but also underscores its ongoing role in safeguarding national sovereignty and contributing to regional stability in the Mediterranean. The Algerian Navy has historically been a formidable force, dominating the sea for centuries and serving as a shield against colonial incursions, as evidenced by its pivotal role during the Ottoman era and post-independence modernization efforts. Today, it remains a key player in the Western Mediterranean, equipped with advanced vessels and submarines to monitor and defend Algeria’s extensive coastline.
