European Parliament Approves Resolution Calling for Recognition of the State of Palestine

Strasbourg – On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the European Parliament approved a resolution urging EU member states to recognize the State of Palestine to advance the two-state solution, according to a report by aps.dz.

While the Parliament had previously supported the “in-principle recognition of the Palestinian state,” this new, non-binding resolution represents a more direct call for national governments to take action.

The resolution was passed with 305 votes in favor, 151 against, and 122 abstentions. Italian Socialist MEP Nicola Zingaretti stated that the outcome was the result of intensive negotiations among political groups over various amendments.

The voting process was lengthy, as MEPs requested a break to verify the vote on amendments related to Gaza before proceeding with the final vote on the resolution as a whole
