Algiers – On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the National People’s Assembly affirmed that Algeria’s experience in empowering youth and women and enhancing their presence in the political arena is a continuation of a historical trajectory rooted in the Glorious Liberation Revolution. This legacy is currently embodied in the profound reforms led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as reported by aps.dz.
During his participation on Friday in the 11th International Conference of Young Parliamentarians held in Lima, the capital of Peru, Nasser Bouakaz, a member of the National People’s Assembly, showcased Algeria’s experience in empowering youth and women and strengthening their roles in political and diplomatic spheres. He emphasized that “this approach represents a continuation of a glorious historical trajectory that began with the Liberation Revolution and is today manifested in the deep reforms led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” according to a statement from the Assembly.
Bouakaz highlighted that youth and women in Algeria “have never been on the margins of history but have played a pivotal role in liberating the country from French colonialism. The youth were the fuel of the revolution and the bearers of the torch of freedom, while Algerian women crafted a unique epic through their participation in the armed struggle and activism, laying the foundations for the modern national state alongside the independence generation.”
Building on this revolutionary legacy, Algeria has adopted a “comprehensive reform vision” that has made the inclusion of youth and women in state institutions a “political and constitutional priority.” Bouakaz recalled the recent constitutional amendments that reinforced this approach by “enhancing youth representation in elected councils and empowering women, in an unprecedented manner, to play greater roles in decision-making positions.”
He also highlighted the new mechanisms established as part of this endeavor, such as the Supreme Youth Council and the National Observatory for Civil Society, which “provide these groups with platforms to influence and actively participate in shaping public policies.”
Bouakaz stressed that Algeria considers investment in the potential of youth and women as “an investment in the nation’s future.” He praised the “positive stance” of the Peruvian Congress, which “commended the Algerian experience and expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise in this field,” as noted in the statement.
