Exports from Algiers Port Surge Over 42% in Q2 2025

Algiers – Exports from the Port of Algiers rose by more than 42% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, driven by an increase in non-hydrocarbon goods shipments, according to the latest report from the Port of Algiers Management Company, as reported by aps.dz.

The company’s data showed that the volume of exported goods grew from 307,823 tons between March and June 2024 to 438,668 tons during the same period in 2025, representing a 42.51% increase.

Outside hydrocarbons, containerized goods for export saw a 31.69% rise in Q2, the port authority added.

Parallel to this, the volume of imported goods increased by 15.99%, rising from 1.703 million tons to 1.976 million tons compared to Q2 2024. This uptick was largely due to the import of large numbers of sheep for Eid al-Adha sacrifices.

Noticeable Decline in Berth Waiting Times

Consequently, the total volume of goods handled at the Port of Algiers reached 2.414 million tons in Q2 2025, up from 2.011 million tons a year earlier, a 20% increase.

The period from March to June 2025 also saw a significant influx of passengers, totaling 79,356, compared to 56,737 in Q2 2024, a 39.87% rise. This is attributed to competitive pricing offered by new maritime transport companies, as explained by the port authority.

Regarding port performance, the average waiting time for ships at berths decreased noticeably, dropping from 4.49 days in Q2 2024 to 3.44 days in Q2 2025, a reduction of 1.05 days.

This result, according to the Port of Algiers Management Company, reflects “the accelerated pace of loading and unloading operations by our teams, as well as improved management of human and material resources, particularly since the implementation of the continuous shift system (24/7) starting February 2025, in execution of the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.”
