Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, arrived in New York today to take part in the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, following instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this year’s General Assembly is being held under the theme: “Working Together for Better Results: Eighty Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
Minister Attaf will represent Algeria in the General Debate scheduled from September 23 to 30, 2025. He is also set to participate in several high-level meetings of the UN Security Council, including a special session initiated by Algeria and other Islamic nations dedicated to the Palestinian cause — reaffirming Algeria’s unwavering commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people against Israeli aggression.
In addition, Attaf will attend a Security Council debate convened by the Republic of Korea, which holds the Council’s presidency in September, focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence on international peace and security.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Algerian Foreign Minister will engage in key meetings within geopolitical groupings to which Algeria belongs, such as the Arab League, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the G77 + China.
The visit will also include numerous bilateral discussions with counterparts from friendly and partner countries, as well as meetings with senior UN officials and heads of international organizations. These diplomatic efforts underscore Algeria’s growing role as a regional leader and a credible voice in defending peace, justice, and the rights of oppressed peoples worldwide.
