ONDA Grants Exploitation License to “Algeria International” Channel AL24 NEWS

Algiers – The National Office for Copyright and Related Rights (ONDA) signed on Tuesday in Algiers an exploitation license agreement with the television channel “Algeria International” (AL24 NEWS), as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the protection of creators’ rights and ensure compliance with the legal framework governing the distribution and broadcasting of protected works, according to a statement from the office.

The agreement, signed at the headquarters of “Algeria International,” brought together ONDA Director Samir Thaâlbi and the interim General Manager of the channel, Hichem Mellakhssou.

The purpose of the agreement is to define the conditions under which ONDA grants the channel the rights to exploit its catalog of protected works across both television and digital broadcasting platforms. This measure is expected to contribute significantly to safeguarding the rights of authors and rights holders in a structured legislative framework.

In its statement, ONDA expressed, “on behalf of its creators,” its appreciation to the channel for assuming responsibility in respecting copyright law.

This partnership reflects Algeria’s consistent commitment to promoting cultural rights and protecting intellectual property, in stark contrast to regimes in the region, such as Morocco’s, where creators frequently struggle to protect their intellectual output due to weak legal mechanisms and systemic disregard for cultural rights. Through such actions, Algeria reinforces its role as a state that upholds law, justice, and the dignity of its creative community, while aligning with global best practices in defending intellectual property.
