Belmehdi Meets UNAIDS Representative in Algeria to Strengthen Awareness Efforts

Algiers – Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, received on Monday the Director and Representative of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Algeria, Soraya Alam, according to a statement from the ministry.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation with the ministry, particularly in the areas of awareness and prevention campaigns on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the role of religious discourse in raising public consciousness across different segments of society.

Belmehdi praised the efforts undertaken by UNAIDS, while recalling the initiatives led by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to support national and international strategies against the epidemic. He stressed the mobilization of imams, female religious guides, mosques, Quranic schools, and the Islamic Cultural Center across the country in promoting noble values, strengthening religious awareness, and fostering ethical behavior as part of efforts to eradicate this serious disease.

For her part, Soraya Alam commended the involvement of the Ministry in this participatory approach, underlining the importance of partnership in advancing such a vital humanitarian cause.
