Despite Ceasefire, Israeli Air and Artillery Strike Hits Khan Yunis in Southern Gaza Strip

In the early hours of Friday, Israeli occupation forces launched an air raid on the city of Khan Yunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip, despite the recent announcement of a ceasefire agreement.

According to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), the Israeli forces shelled the Katiba area in central Khan Yunis with multiple artillery shells, coinciding with drone flights over the city. The occupation also conducted a heavy airstrike targeting the city center.

This attack occurred shortly after the announcement of the first phase of a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which entails ending the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the exchange of prisoners and detainees.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have carried out acts that amount to genocide in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of more than 67,000 Palestinians and injuring around 170,000 others, the majority being women and children. The ongoing blockade and siege have caused famine, contributing to the deaths of an additional 460 people, including 154 children.

The recent strike in Khan Yunis starkly contradicts the ceasefire terms and highlights the fragile and volatile nature of peace efforts in the region, underscoring the continued suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation despite international calls for justice and humanitarian intervention.
