Algeria Connects with Northern European Students in Virtual Meeting

Algerian officials held a virtual meeting with Algerian students residing in Northern Europe, reinforcing the government's commitment to engaging with its diaspora. The meeting, led by Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, and Kamal Badari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, aimed to foster communication and address the students' concerns. This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to support Algerian nationals abroad, according to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

Secretary of State Chaib emphasized that the virtual gathering, organized in conjunction with the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year, underscores the importance placed on Algerian students abroad. He stated that these students are a priority within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ agenda, reflecting the government’s directives to protect the national community abroad and promote their participation in national development. The statement further highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of Algerian students studying overseas.

Chaib also affirmed that monitoring the conditions of Algerian students abroad remains a key focus of consular work. He noted that guidance has been provided to ensure regular engagement with students, addressing their needs, and informing them about initiatives designed to benefit them. This proactive approach seeks to create a supportive environment for Algerian students pursuing education in foreign countries.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Badari, reassured the students that his ministry is dedicated to fulfilling their aspirations, regardless of their location. He encouraged them to excel in their respective fields of study, recognizing them as future contributors to Algeria’s national development. Badari’s statement underscores the government’s belief in the potential of its students abroad to contribute to the country’s progress.

During the meeting, both government officials actively listened to the students’ concerns and engaged with their suggestions in a structured and effective manner. The meeting represents the first in a series of similar engagements planned in close coordination with various relevant sectors. These ongoing dialogues aim to foster a strong connection between the Algerian government and its students abroad, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed. The Algerian government views these students as valuable assets and is committed to supporting their academic pursuits and future contributions to the nation.
