Algiers, Algeria - The Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women's Issues, Souria Mouloudji, accompanied by the Governor of Algiers, Mohamed Abdenour Rabehi, inaugurated several specialized educational institutions for children with special needs in the municipalities of Boulogne, Hussein Dey, and Sidi M'hamed on Tuesday. This initiative aims to enhance educational care services for this vulnerable population within the capital city.
The newly opened centers will be managed by the ‘Brisco’ foundation, which specializes in managing kindergartens and nurseries, in coordination with the Directorate of Social Action and Solidarity of the Algiers Province. During her visit, Minister Mouloudji inspected the various new facilities and structures, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the pedagogical program approved by the ministry and complying with the standards stipulated in the ministerial decree regarding the organization and equipment of psycho-pedagogical centers.
The Minister stressed the necessity of providing all the necessary educational resources and ensuring quality care for children, particularly regarding early intervention, psychological support, and family support, to guarantee comprehensive care. She affirmed the sector’s commitment to supporting initiatives by local authorities and the private sector to open specialized institutions across various provinces, with the goal of expanding care options and bringing services closer to families. This decentralized approach aims to improve access and reduce burdens on families seeking specialized educational support.
Mouloudji highlighted that the ministry is adopting a comprehensive approach based on integration between the public sector and private initiatives, in addition to opening special classes within national education institutions. This strategy involves developing educational curricula that align with the capabilities and needs of students, empowering them to integrate effectively into society. The goal is to create a more inclusive educational environment that caters to the diverse learning needs of all students.
The Minister further noted that the national solidarity sector currently oversees a network comprising 242 specialized institutions and 28 annexes, in addition to 1,622 special classes in schools, with a total of over 40,000 students. This network is supported by more than 15,000 multidisciplinary professionals dedicated to providing specialized care and education to students with special needs. The expansion of these services represents a significant investment in the future of these children and their families, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.
The opening of these new centers in Algiers signals a commitment to providing inclusive and accessible education for children with special needs, highlighting the government’s dedication to social welfare and the empowerment of all citizens.
