Non-Aligned Movement Praises President Tebboune’s Leadership

      Kampala Summit (October 17, 2025) - The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has lauded Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his pivotal role in fostering joint African action, championing just causes, and strengthening international cooperation to benefit developing nations. The commendation came during the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Kampala on October 15th and 16th. 

The final document of the meeting specifically acknowledged President Tebboune’s efforts within the African Union (AU). This includes his role as the AU’s coordinator in combating terrorism and his leadership of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum of Heads of State. The NAM highlighted President Tebboune’s commitment to addressing critical issues facing the African continent and promoting good governance.

Furthermore, the Non-Aligned Movement welcomed President Tebboune’s proposal to establish an African Day to honor the martyrs and victims of colonialism in Africa. They also expressed support for Algeria’s intention to organize an international conference on the crimes of colonialism in coordination with the African Union Commission. This initiative demonstrates Algeria’s commitment to confronting the legacy of colonialism and advocating for justice and historical redress.

The NAM also recognized President Tebboune’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people. This includes his personal involvement in efforts to reconcile Palestinian factions and Algeria’s significant efforts, under his leadership, at the United Nations Security Council to support the Palestinian cause. The movement acknowledged Algeria’s dedication to achieving a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Beyond regional issues, the Non-Aligned Movement emphasized Algeria’s commitment to multilateralism and its efforts to promote the interests of developing countries on the global stage. This includes Algeria’s successful leadership in negotiating the UN convention on combating cybercrime and its leadership of the special committee tasked with drafting a comprehensive international convention against the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes. The NAM also highlighted Algeria’s direct contribution to the Human Rights Council’s adoption of a significant resolution on the impact of anti-personnel landmines. These actions underscore Algeria’s dedication to addressing global challenges and promoting international cooperation through multilateral frameworks.

President Tebboune’s leadership has solidified Algeria’s position as a key player within the Non-Aligned Movement and the broader international community. His commitment to African unity, justice, and multilateralism has been widely recognized and appreciated by NAM member states. Algeria’s active engagement in addressing global challenges and promoting the interests of developing nations demonstrates its commitment to a more equitable and just world order.
