Algiers, Algeria – Telecommunications giant Ooredoo Algeria has pledged its support to the country’s ambitious “One Million Trees” national reforestation campaign, a sweeping initiative aimed at bolstering Algeria’s green spaces and mitigating the effects of climate change. The effort, launched on October 25th to coincide with the National Tree Day, seeks to plant one million trees across the nation within a 24-hour period.
Ooredoo’s involvement comes at the behest of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, urging the company to contribute to this vital environmental undertaking. The company’s participation aligns with a broader national strategy spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, working in collaboration with the General Directorate of Forests.
The company organized a tree-planting event in Sidi Rached, Tipaza province, under the banner “Our Country, Always Green.” Ooredoo employees volunteered their time and effort in collaboration with the “National Association for Voluntary Work” (ANV), a long-standing partner in numerous community-based initiatives.
Ooredoo’s commitment extended beyond Tipaza, with volunteers also participating in a separate tree-planting operation in Mactaa Kheira, Algiers. This event saw the attendance of the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, highlighting the significance of the reforestation project at a governmental level. Further reinforcing its widespread commitment, Ooredoo volunteers participated in similar initiatives across various regions of Algeria.
“We are incredibly proud to participate in this large-scale national environmental initiative for reforestation launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and in response to the recommendation of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications,” stated Ronnie Toama, General Manager of Ooredoo Algeria. “We firmly believe that preserving our forests is a collective responsibility that we must embrace with determination and optimism. Through this national initiative, Ooredoo, alongside other organizations and civil society, is committed to taking concrete action for a greener and more sustainable future.”
The “One Million Trees” campaign reflects Algeria’s growing awareness of environmental issues and its dedication to creating a more sustainable future. The initiative aims to address deforestation, combat desertification, improve air quality, and promote biodiversity throughout the country. Ooredoo’s participation demonstrates a commitment to corporate social responsibility and its desire to contribute positively to the Algerian environment. The involvement of corporate entities like Ooredoo, alongside government agencies and local organizations, emphasizes a unified approach to achieving Algeria’s environmental goals. The success of this campaign hinges on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, paving the way for a healthier and more resilient ecosystem for future generations.
