Former MC Alger star Nacer Bouiche has provided his analysis on the club’s recent elimination from the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. In an exclusive interview with DZWatch, Bouiche highlighted key factors contributing to MC Alger’s defeat against Orlando Pirates of South Africa.
Bouiche stated that while MC Alger performed admirably in both legs, their inability to convert chances proved decisive. He emphasized that in knockout football, scoring goals is paramount. Orlando Pirates, he noted, capitalized on their opportunity by scoring a crucial away goal in Algiers and subsequently defending their lead in Johannesburg. Bouiche observed that the South African team effectively employed a defensive strategy, stifling MC Alger’s attacking efforts.
“MC Alger’s players showed good quality, but they lacked sharpness in the final third,” Bouiche commented. He also pointed out that while their tactical approach was sound, their physical conditioning needed improvement to shift the momentum of the game. Furthermore, Bouiche stressed the importance of mental preparation for Algerian clubs competing in African competitions, particularly as they progress to the later stages, where they encounter higher levels of competition and well-rounded opponents.
Addressing the broader issue of Algerian clubs’ recurring struggles in the quarter-finals, Bouiche suggested that the relatively low quality of the domestic league is a contributing factor. He argued that only a handful of teams possess the necessary level of competitiveness, while the remaining clubs are comparatively weaker.
Turning to the CAF Confederation Cup, Bouiche also discussed CS Constantine’s impressive victory over USM Alger. He attributed CSC’s success to several factors, expressing his hope that coach Khierreddine Madoui could lead the team to win the title. Bouiche’s analysis offers valuable insights into the current state of Algerian football and its challenges in continental competitions.
Finally, when asked about MC Alger President Hakim Hadj Redjem’s reported resignation, Bouiche hinted that the elimination might be the primary reason behind the decision.
