Ain Defla, November 3, 2025 – National Gendarmerie forces in Ain Defla have dismantled a sophisticated criminal network specializing in drug trafficking, seizing a significant quantity of cannabis. The operation culminated in the confiscation of over 167 kilograms of the illicit substance.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence received by the Regional Gendarmerie Battalion in Djendel regarding an attempt to smuggle a substantial amount of drugs from a southwestern province via a commercial vehicle.
In response, a comprehensive plan was implemented, involving the closure of key primary and secondary routes. Static and mobile units were deployed, and thorough searches were conducted at checkpoints throughout the region. This heightened vigilance led to the interception of the suspect vehicle and the apprehension of its driver at a Gendarmerie roadblock.
A meticulous search of the vehicle, aided by canine units, uncovered a hidden compartment containing a staggering 167.88 kilograms of cannabis. The drugs were carefully concealed within the specially modified section of the vehicle.
Subsequent field investigations and the utilization of specialized investigative techniques enabled the authorities to identify the remaining members of the criminal network, which extended across several provinces within the country and even abroad. This led to the arrest of seven additional suspects.
In addition to the seized cannabis, authorities also impounded the commercial vehicle used in the crime and confiscated mobile phones. The suspects will be presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Khemis Miliana Court upon completion of the investigation. DZWatch continues to monitor this developing story.
