National Sailing Championship Sets Sail in Algiers

Algiers, October 29, 2025 – The National Sailing Championship commenced today in Algiers, marking a significant event for the nation’s sailing community. The championship, held at the National School of Water and Underwater Sports in Alger Plage, has drawn participation from over 80 sailors representing 20 clubs across the country.

The competition features the ‘ILCA’ and ‘BIC Techno’ classes for senior sailors. In addition, the fourth stage of the ‘Optimist’ class, for sailors under 15 years old, is also being contested.

Notably absent from the competition is sailor Merabet Youssef, who is recovering from a traffic accident. The organizers and fellow competitors extended their best wishes for his speedy recovery.

This year’s National Championship, which is scheduled to conclude on October 31st, serves as a crucial preparatory stage for upcoming international competitions. These include the Arab Championships in both Kuwait and Egypt, as well as the highly anticipated African Championship scheduled for next year. The event provides a valuable opportunity for Algerian sailors to hone their skills and gain competitive experience on a national level before representing the country on the international stage.
