Red Crescent Announces Extensive Ramadan Relief Program

The Algerian Red Crescent (ARC) is launching a comprehensive Ramadan relief program following four months of intensive preparation, according to ARC President Ibtissam Hamlaoui.

In an exclusive interview, Hamlaoui detailed the organization’s plans for the holy month, emphasizing the scale of their humanitarian efforts. The ARC aims to distribute 150,000 food parcels across the country, provide Eid clothing for 20,000 orphans, and facilitate circumcision procedures for over 10,000 children.

Hamlaoui highlighted the widespread reach of the ARC’s ‘Restaurants of Mercy’ initiative. "In the first two days of Ramadan alone, we served over 50,000 meals daily to travelers, needy individuals, and families nationwide," she stated. Five large tents in Ain Defla, Oran, Djebahia (Bouira), Chelghoum Laid (Mila), and Setif provide meals to between 1,000 and 1,200 people each day.

New initiatives this year include establishing restaurants at the Kharouba bus terminal and other stations across the country to cater to travelers. Hot meals are also being distributed at Houari Boumediene International Airport and through mobile kitchens in various regions. "We are present everywhere," Hamlaoui asserted, "I don’t believe there is any area where the Algerian Red Crescent is not active."

Regarding Eid clothing for orphans, Hamlaoui explained that each of the 20,000 children would receive a voucher worth 4,000 DZD to spend at the national company "Getex," which is offering a 50% discount. "This supports national production while giving children and their families the freedom to choose their clothes," she said. An online platform and delivery services will also be available, particularly in regions without Getex branches. The ARC has prepared over 15,000 garments for children of all ages, with the possibility of increasing the number.

Furthermore, Hamlaoui confirmed that the ARC is preparing humanitarian aid for Gaza. She expressed gratitude to the governors and contributors.
