Algeria and the United States have agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation in the health sector, with a particular focus on combating infectious diseases and enhancing vaccination programs. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Sidik Aït Messoudène, and the United States Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, on Wednesday evening.
Discussions centered on exploring avenues to deepen health collaboration between the two nations, including the exchange of expertise and the strengthening of partnerships between stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry. Ambassador Aubin expressed the United States’ keen interest in expanding cooperation between health and economic institutions in both countries. She lauded Algeria’s efforts in disease prevention, particularly through national vaccination programs and initiatives to combat infectious diseases.
Minister Aït Messoudène emphasized the pivotal role of the National Reference Center for the Control of Tropical Diseases in strengthening national capabilities. He also indicated potential collaboration with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to leverage their technical and scientific expertise.
The Minister acknowledged the advanced level of the American healthcare system, highlighting the importance of expanding scientific and technological cooperation frameworks between the two sides to serve the interests of both populations. He further stressed the desire for Algerian experts to benefit from US experience in managing public health emergencies and developing innovative treatment strategies.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to continue coordination and consultation to elevate the health partnership between Algeria and the United States to new heights. This will involve identifying shared priorities and activating practical cooperation mechanisms on the ground.
