ZERALDA – National Gendarmerie forces have apprehended a tractor driver following a traffic incident on the Algiers-Tipaza highway. The arrest comes after a video circulating on social media depicted the tractor driver making dangerous lane changes on the busy highway near the Cheraga interchange.
The incident resulted in a traffic accident, reportedly causing a truck driver to flee the scene. A citizen captured the event on video while driving on the same road, documenting the tractor’s reckless maneuvers and the resulting damage to at least one vehicle.
Leveraging the video evidence and utilizing the network of digital traffic surveillance cameras along the highway, the National Gendarmerie’s territorial road safety unit in Zeralda swiftly identified and located the tractor driver. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is currently underway. Authorities are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the full extent of the driver’s negligence. Upon completion of the legal procedures, the tractor driver will be presented before the relevant judicial authorities in the region.
