Algiers – The 10th International Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition “SIPA 2025” witnessed the signing of two significant cooperation agreements aimed at bolstering the fisheries and aquaculture sector. The National Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CNPA) entered into partnerships with both the National Livestock Feed Office (ONAB) and the National Microcredit Management Agency (ANGEM).
The first agreement, signed by Nabil Aouich, Director General of CNPA, and Hama Houssameddine, Deputy Director General of ONAB, focuses on enhancing the marketing and distribution of aquaculture products, particularly freshwater species such as red tilapia. According to Mr. Houssameddine, the agreement aims to integrate these products into ONAB’s nationwide network of sales outlets. This initiative will provide a crucial avenue for producers to reach a wider consumer base.
Mr. Aouich emphasized that this partnership is a direct response to the challenges faced by producers in marketing certain fish varieties, especially red tilapia. By securing consistent distribution channels, the agreement seeks to stabilize the market and ensure fair prices for both producers and consumers.
The second agreement, between Mr. Aouich and Souad Ben Djemil, Director General of ANGEM, is designed to support young entrepreneurs involved in the blue economy. This collaboration will provide training and funding for micro-enterprises, fostering innovation and growth within the sector.
Ms. Ben Djemil highlighted that the support will encompass training in aquaculture techniques and business management, along with financial assistance for projects valued up to one million Algerian dinars. This initiative aims to empower young people to establish and manage successful aquaculture businesses.
Both agreements are part of a broader effort to develop the fisheries and aquaculture sector and promote youth involvement in this promising economic area. The Director General of CNPA reiterated the importance of these partnerships in driving sustainable growth and creating opportunities within the industry. These agreements mark a significant step forward for the sector. Further details will be released in the coming weeks.
