Iran Dismisses Near-Term Resumption of Talks with Washington

Tehran has stated that a resumption of negotiations with the United States is not currently feasible. This announcement comes amid ongoing tensions and a perceived lack of constructive engagement from the American side.

In a statement released on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that there is no prospect for renewed talks with Washington at this time. Responding to inquiries about the possibility of further discussions between Tehran and Washington, Araghchi emphasized that Iran sees no positive or constructive approach emanating from the U.S. government.

The Foreign Minister elaborated that dialogue would only be productive if it were based on principles of equality and aimed at achieving a balanced agreement beneficial to both parties. He added that Tehran remains open to considering future discussions should Washington demonstrate a genuine willingness to engage on equal footing and with mutual respect.

Araghchi’s remarks follow recent statements from Washington regarding potential negotiations. However, the Iranian perspective highlights a significant divergence in perceived conditions for meaningful dialogue.

Indirect negotiations between the two countries concerning Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions have been stalled for several months. This standstill persists against a backdrop of continued tension, further complicated by recent regional events. The relationship between Iran and the U.S. remains strained.

Prior to the current impasse, Tehran and Washington had engaged in multiple rounds of nuclear talks. However, these discussions were interrupted, contributing to the present lack of progress in resolving outstanding issues.
