Polisario Front: No Talks Without Self-Determination Guarantee

Algiers – The President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has affirmed that the Front will not participate in any negotiations that do not guarantee the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination. Ghali reiterated the Polisario’s commitment to a just and peaceful resolution based on international legitimacy.

Speaking to Polisario Front and state officials, Ghali emphasized the Sahrawi side’s readiness for constructive cooperation with UN efforts. He warned that unilateral approaches would only complicate the conflict and heighten regional tensions.

Ghali pointed out that the latest UN Security Council resolution explicitly mentions the Sahrawi people and the Polisario Front, reaffirming the principle of self-determination. He added that the Council maintained all its previous resolutions on the conflict and expressed its willingness to support proposals from both parties aimed at a just and lasting solution.

The extension of the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) underscores the international organization’s commitment to continuing its efforts to achieve the long-awaited referendum, according to Ghali.

“The decisive element in the equation of a solution lies in the Sahrawi people and the Liberation Army,” Ghali stated, calling for vigilance against what he described as the “plots of the Moroccan regime,” which he said is trying to exploit its relationships with influential parties within the Security Council to impose devious solutions.

He added that “these moves represent the last cards of the Moroccan regime after the normalization path, and the Sahrawi people must confront them with steadfastness and unity.” Ghali also criticized the King of Morocco’s speech as weak and misleading, recalling that the Moroccan regime is employing the same tactics of deception it used in 1975 during the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
