Two young Algerian entrepreneurs have been awarded the prestigious ARLEM 2025 Prize for Young Local Entrepreneurship in the Mediterranean. This achievement highlights the growing prominence of Algerian youth in the fields of innovation and business development.
Mokhtar Bouazza, founder of the startup GB Vertical, and Benamar Bakhti, from the business incubator at the University of Mascara, were recognized for their groundbreaking work. Bouazza’s project focuses on smart vertical farming, a pioneering model that leverages artificial intelligence, sensor technology, and data-driven irrigation systems. The aim is to revolutionize the agricultural sector, create local employment opportunities, and promote innovation and sustainability in rural areas of Algeria.
GB Vertical’s approach to agriculture offers a sustainable solution to food production challenges, particularly in regions facing water scarcity and limited arable land. By utilizing vertical farming techniques, the project maximizes crop yields while minimizing environmental impact. The integration of AI and data analytics allows for precise monitoring and optimization of growing conditions, leading to increased efficiency and reduced resource consumption.
The recognition of these young entrepreneurs underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting its youth in their endeavors. The ARLEM prize serves as an inspiration to other aspiring entrepreneurs in the country and across the Mediterranean region.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development expressed his congratulations to the winners, emphasizing the immense potential of Algerian youth and their ability to compete on a Mediterranean level. This award further solidifies Algeria’s position as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
