Beirut – Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun has reiterated the urgent need to exert pressure on Israel to cease its ongoing violations against Lebanon. The President emphasized the importance of compelling Israel to fully implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and adhere to the agreement reached last year.
President Aoun stated that adherence to Resolution 1701 is crucial for maintaining stability and preventing further escalation along the southern border. He stressed that the continued Israeli incursions undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and pose a direct threat to its security.
The President also highlighted the necessity of completing the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces to the southern border, as outlined in the army’s strategic plan. This deployment is intended to strengthen Lebanon’s control over its territory and prevent future cross-border incidents.
“The international community must hold Israel accountable for its actions and ensure that it respects Lebanon’s sovereignty,” President Aoun asserted. He called on global powers to intervene and prevent further acts of aggression that could destabilize the region.
The Lebanese government remains committed to upholding its responsibilities under Resolution 1701 and working towards a lasting and peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions. However, President Aoun made it clear that Lebanon will not tolerate continued violations of its sovereignty and will take all necessary measures to protect its borders and its people. The President’s statement underscores the growing concern within Lebanon regarding Israel’s persistent military activities and the need for a concerted international effort to de-escalate the situation.
