Cape Town, South Africa – Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saioud, is participating in the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, starting today. The Ministry announced his participation in a statement released earlier today.
The meeting, which also includes the presence of Algeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, Ali Achoui, will continue until tomorrow, Monday. The theme of this year’s gathering is ‘Resilience for All: Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction through Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability.’
Algeria is participating in this G20 working group meeting as an invited guest for the first time. Prior to the ministerial-level discussions, technical expert meetings were held from October 8th to 11th. Hamid Afra, the National Delegate for Major Risks, represented Algeria in these preliminary sessions.
The discussions are expected to focus on strategies for mitigating the impact of natural disasters, promoting international cooperation, and ensuring equitable access to resources and support for vulnerable populations. This participation underscores Algeria’s commitment to addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change and other disaster risks.
The Algerian delegation is expected to share the nation’s experiences and perspectives on disaster risk reduction, particularly in the context of the African continent. Minister Saioud’s presence highlights the importance Algeria places on collaborative efforts to build resilience and protect communities from the devastating effects of disasters.
