Luanda – Angola has reiterated its unwavering support for the cause of Western Sahara, aligning itself with Algeria’s firm stance on the issue. This declaration comes as Angola commemorates its 50th year of independence.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Angolan embassy in Algiers, Ambassador Toko Diakanga Sigaud emphasized the strong bond between Angola and Algeria, describing the latter as a traditional ally. He stated that Angola, like Algeria, adheres to a consistent principle, viewing the Western Sahara issue as a matter of fundamental importance.
“Angola and Algeria share many common interests across various issues concerning the African continent,” the Ambassador noted, highlighting the excellent bilateral relations between the two nations. He expressed gratitude to all African and non-African countries that assisted Angola in its national liberation struggle.
Ambassador Sigaud lauded Algeria’s pivotal role in Angola’s independence and subsequent development. He affirmed that the bilateral relationship is thriving and expressed Angola’s ambition to identify further common ground for enhancing cooperation.
“Our political relations are excellent and can serve as a cornerstone for bolstering economic integration. We also enjoy strong diplomatic collaboration across all international forums,” he added.
The Ambassador also touched upon economic cooperation, revealing that both countries are preparing to convene meetings to explore opportunities in this domain. He mentioned the presence of Angolan experts in Algeria undergoing training in the hydrocarbons sector and other energy-related fields. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthening their ties and fostering mutual growth.
