Tehran has reaffirmed its commitment to engaging in serious negotiations with the United States and European nations regarding its nuclear program. Iranian officials emphasize that reaching a resolution in the nuclear talks is in the country’s best interest.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei stated Wednesday that Iran’s priority has always been to achieve a positive outcome from the nuclear negotiations with the West, as sanctions negatively impact the Iranian people and its national economy.
Baghaei asserted that Western parties are fully aware that Iran has entered the negotiations with a clear plan and utmost seriousness. He dismissed allegations that Iran is attempting to stall the process as fabrications originating from Israel.
Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh reinforced Iran’s desire to reach a peaceful nuclear agreement, stressing that Tehran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons and is prepared to offer assurances to the international community. He noted that Iran has received conflicting messages from Washington through third-party nations, highlighting the complexities of previous discussions.
These statements follow an announcement by the US President that Tehran has requested the lifting of sanctions imposed on the country, with the US expressing willingness to negotiate on the matter.
Previously, five rounds of indirect negotiations took place between Iran and the US administration. These talks were suspended following a joint Israeli-American operation on Iranian soil. Iran also held discussions with the European Troika (France, Germany, and Britain) on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, but these did not yield results. Tehran attributed the failure of the negotiations to unreasonable demands from the United States, conveyed through European intermediaries.
