Algiers, Algeria – Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), received Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, at the ANP headquarters today. Minister Kashiri is leading a high-level military delegation on a visit to Algeria.
The official reception commenced with the playing of the national anthems and a military salute rendered by formations from various branches of the ANP. The meeting was attended by key Algerian military figures, including the Commander of Land Forces, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Commander of the Republican Guard, Force Commanders, the Director of the Cabinet of the Ministry of National Defence, the Acting Commander of the National Gendarmerie, Department Heads, the Inspector General of the Army, and Central Directors from the ANP General Staff and the Ministry of National Defence. Members of the Zimbabwean military delegation were also present.
During the meeting, both parties explored avenues for strengthening military cooperation between the two nations. Discussions also focused on global and continental security challenges, with both sides exchanging views on matters of mutual interest. Lieutenant General Chengriha emphasized Algeria’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with African nations to address shared security concerns. Minister Kashiri expressed Zimbabwe’s appreciation for Algeria’s support and its commitment to regional stability.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts. Minister Kashiri also signed the Golden Record of the ANP General Staff. Furthermore, the Zimbabwean Minister visited the Martyr’s Memorial, where she laid a wreath and paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Algerian Revolution.
This visit underscores the commitment of both Algeria and Zimbabwe to bolstering their bilateral relations, particularly in the realm of defense and security. The discussions held are expected to pave the way for enhanced collaboration in various areas, contributing to regional peace and stability.
