Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf received a phone call from EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Saturday.
The call focused on the worrying developments in the Republic of Niger, where the two sides exchanged views and analyses on the latest developments in this neighboring and neighboring country and the risks it poses to it and to the entire Sahel-Saharan region.
The two sides stressed the need to unify political and diplomatic pressure to ensure the return to the constitutional system in the Republic of Niger through the return of Mohamed Bazoum to his post as the legitimate president of the country.
Josep Borrell informed the head of Algerian diplomacy of the measures that the European Union has approved against the perpetrators of the military coup in Niger.
Minister Attaf reiterated the conviction of Algeria of the need to give priority to the political and diplomatic path, given the repercussions of the option of resorting to force, which will only worsen the situation locally and regionally.
