Algiers, Algeria – Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army, received Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence and War Veterans, Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, in Algiers on Wednesday. The visit underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations, according to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of National Defence.
The official reception commenced with the playing of the Algerian and Zimbabwean national anthems, followed by a military salute from various divisions of the Algerian People’s National Army. A host of high-ranking Algerian military officials were present, including the Land Forces Commander, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Republican Guard Commander, and other key figures.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions concerning the current state of military cooperation and explored avenues for further enhancement in the future. They also addressed prevailing security challenges facing the world, with a particular focus on the African continent. The delegations exchanged perspectives on various matters of mutual interest, signaling a commitment to collaborative security efforts.
Lieutenant General Chengriha extended a warm welcome to Minister Muchinguri Kashiri, emphasizing that her visit reflects the deep-rooted fraternal and historical bonds between the Algerian and Zimbabwean people. He stated, “On the occasion of your visit to Algeria, I would like to reiterate our welcome to you and the delegation accompanying you, wishing you a pleasant stay among us. This visit, which reflects the depth of the fraternal and historical ties that bind our two peoples, embodies the common will of the supreme authorities of our two countries to strengthen the paths of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of defense and security.”
He further added, “Indeed, the historical relations between our two countries extend to the period of joint struggle, and the struggle of our two peoples for freedom, dignity and Algerian sovereignty, and since their independence, our countries have contributed, with steadfast principles and determination, to supporting the struggle to complete the liberation of Africa from colonialism and racial discrimination, and relations between our two countries have remained based on respect.” The discussions pave the way for deeper collaboration in defense and security matters.
