Poll: American Approval of Trump’s Leadership Declines

A new poll reveals a significant decline in American approval of President Donald Trump’s handling of the nation’s affairs since the beginning of his second term. The survey, conducted after the Democratic victories in recent local elections and prior to Congress resolving the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, indicates a drop in public support.

The poll found that only 33% of Americans approve of Trump’s management of the government. This represents a considerable decrease from the 43% approval rating recorded in a similar poll conducted in March.

The decline is primarily attributed to decreased satisfaction among Republicans and Independents. Among Republicans, 68% expressed support for Trump’s governance, compared to 81% in March. Support among Independents fell even more sharply, from 38% to 25%.

The survey suggests that the government shutdown contributed to the growing discontent. The shutdown caused widespread disruption, including air travel delays and the furlough of hundreds of thousands of federal employees without pay.

The poll also highlighted the unwavering opposition to Trump’s leadership style among Democrats. 95% of Democrats continue to disapprove of Trump’s approach to government, a slight increase from 89% in March.

Despite the declining approval of his governmental management, Trump’s overall approval rating remains relatively stable. Approximately one-third of American adults, or 36%, approve of his general performance as president. This figure is comparable to the 37% approval rating recorded in a previous poll in October.

Similarly, there has been little change in his approval ratings for handling key issues such as immigration and the economy since last month.
