Qatar Calls for Unified Effort to Implement Gaza Agreement

Doha, Qatar – The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, emphasized today the critical need for concerted regional and international efforts to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

This statement followed a phone call between the Qatari Prime Minister and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. During the call, the two officials discussed bilateral cooperation and explored avenues for strengthening ties. Discussions also centered on the evolving situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in light of the recently established ceasefire agreement. A range of other issues of mutual interest were also addressed.

Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s firm belief in the necessity of unified regional and international action to guarantee the complete adherence to the agreement. He stressed that this is paramount to paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

The first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas commenced on October 10th. This followed a period of intense conflict in the Gaza Strip that began on October 8, 2023, resulting in a devastating loss of life. Reports indicate that over 69,000 Palestinian lives were lost and more than 170,000 individuals were injured, a significant proportion of whom were children and women. The United Nations has estimated the cost of reconstruction in Gaza to be approximately $70 billion.
