Algiers, DZWatch – Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), at the ministry headquarters today.
The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange views on the latest developments in the Libyan arena, with a focus on UN efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the brotherly country, while preserving its sovereignty, unity, and independence.
During the consultations, the UN envoy briefed the Minister of State on the steps outlined in the UN roadmap presented to the Security Council on August 21, 2025. This roadmap includes the preparation of the legal framework for elections, the unification of executive institutions, and the organization of structured dialogue, in addition to mobilizing further international and regional support for UN efforts.
For his part, Minister Attaf affirmed Algeria’s full support for the political process in Libya, stressing the need to organize elections as the only way to overcome the current phase, and rejecting all forms of foreign interference in Libyan internal affairs.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to brief the UN envoy on the outcomes of the ministerial consultative meeting of the tripartite mechanism of Libya’s neighboring countries, which was held in Algiers on November 6, 2025, to enhance regional coordination and joint support for the stability of Libya. Algeria continues to play a crucial role in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful resolution to the Libyan crisis.
