Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received today the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Tetteh, at the ministry headquarters.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consultations between the two parties allowed for a review of the latest developments in the Libyan arena, with a focus on UN efforts aimed at guiding the brotherly country towards safety, contributing to the establishment of security and stability, and preserving the sovereignty, unity, and independence of the State of Libya.
On this occasion, the UN envoy briefed the Minister of State on the steps adopted in the UN roadmap presented to the Security Council on August 21, 2025, regarding the preparation of the legal framework for the elections, the unification of the executive institutions, her vision for organizing a structured dialogue, as well as the importance of mobilizing more international and regional support for the UN efforts.
For his part, the Minister of State reaffirmed his support for the UN efforts aimed at making the political process a success, stressing the inevitability of holding elections as the only way to overcome the current stage, and rejecting all forms of foreign interference in Libyan internal affairs. He further emphasized that only a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned process can ensure long-term stability.
This meeting also provided an opportunity to inform the UN envoy about the outcomes of the consultative ministerial meeting of the Tripartite Mechanism of Neighboring Countries of Libya, held in Algiers on November 6, 2025. The Minister reiterated Algeria’s commitment to supporting a peaceful and inclusive resolution to the Libyan crisis.
