A tragic multi-vehicle collision on the East-West highway in Mascara Province has resulted in one fatality and injuries to 23 others. The accident occurred near the Mardu area, within the municipality of Ouagaz, heading in the direction of Algiers.
Civil Protection services confirmed that the deceased was a 40-year-old individual. The body has been transported to the morgue at the local hospital. Injured individuals, ranging in age from one to 70 years old, received on-site medical assistance before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Reports indicate that the incident involved a chain reaction collision of 17 vehicles. Civil Protection units responded to the scene at 11:20 AM, deploying 10 ambulances and three rescue trucks to manage the situation and provide aid to the injured.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. Civil Protection services have affirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of those affected and to monitor the impact of the accident on traffic flow in the area. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and expect delays.
