Algiers, Algeria – A symposium held in Algiers today focused on the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people for freedom and the establishment of an independent state. The event, commemorating the 21st anniversary of the death of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and the 37th anniversary of the declaration of the State of Palestine in Algiers, brought together participants to reflect on the late leader’s legacy.
Attendees emphasized Arafat’s pivotal role in the Palestinian national movement, noting his unwavering commitment to self-determination. Speakers highlighted his leadership during critical periods, underscoring his dedication to achieving a sovereign Palestinian state.
“Yasser Arafat’s name remains inextricably linked to the Palestinian quest for liberation,” stated one participant. “His vision continues to inspire generations of Palestinians striving for their fundamental rights.”
The symposium also served as a reminder of Algeria’s historical support for the Palestinian cause. The declaration of the State of Palestine in Algiers in 1988 symbolized the country’s long-standing solidarity with the Palestinian people. The event underscored Algeria’s continued commitment to a just and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Discussions also touched upon the current challenges facing the Palestinian people, including the ongoing occupation, settlement expansion, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Participants reiterated the need for renewed international efforts to achieve a two-state solution, enabling Palestinians to exercise their right to self-determination and live in peace and security.
The forum concluded with a renewed call for unity among Palestinians and a reaffirmation of the unwavering support of the Algerian people for their struggle for freedom and independence.
