DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria is set to bolster its national airline fleet with new deliveries of Airbus and Boeing aircraft in the coming weeks and months, according to Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saidou.
The announcement was made during the welcoming ceremony for the first Airbus A330-900neo, the latest addition to Air Algerie’s fleet. Minister Saidou emphasized that the acquisition of 16 new aircraft, comprising both Boeing and Airbus models, will address the current shortfall in the airline’s capacity.
“These new aircraft will allow us to better meet the needs of the market and our customers,” Saidou stated. “This investment is crucial for the development of our international network and will enable Air Algerie to regain its competitive position in the global market.”
The national airline currently operates a fleet of 55 aircraft. Additionally, its subsidiary, Air Algerie Internal, utilizes 15 aircraft and is also undertaking a modernization program. This includes plans to acquire 16 ATR aircraft in the near future to strengthen its domestic network, as part of a carefully considered development plan.
The arrival of the Airbus A330-900neo and the anticipated deliveries of further Airbus and Boeing aircraft represent a significant investment in Algeria’s aviation sector, aimed at improving connectivity and bolstering the national economy.
