Morocco Strengthens Anti-Corruption Ties with Interpol

Rabat, Morocco – The Moroccan National Authority for Integrity, Prevention and Fight against Corruption (INPPLC) has announced enhanced cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to combat corruption and recover stolen assets. This development comes amidst recent public demonstrations in Morocco expressing concerns about corruption.

According to a statement released by the INPPLC, discussions with Interpol focused on bolstering collaboration in the fight against corruption and the recovery of illicitly acquired assets. These talks took place on the sidelines of the Interpol Global Conference on Combating Corruption and Asset Recovery, held in Abu Dhabi from November 11th to 13th.

The INPPLC emphasizes the importance of coordination between anti-corruption bodies and law enforcement agencies. The discussions centered on improving joint operational mechanisms in combating corruption and recovering assets, as well as exchanging perspectives on issues of mutual concern.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s model for ensuring coordination and institutional integration between the INPPLC, the General Directorate of National Security, and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance. This strategic agreement is considered a significant advancement in coordinating national efforts to combat corruption.

In October, the INPPLC signed an agreement with the General Directorate of National Security to facilitate the exchange of information related to corruption and money laundering.

Moroccan authorities have been actively pursuing anti-corruption measures. In October, the Head of Public Prosecution, Hisham al-Balaoui, announced the arrest of over 400 individuals as part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and bribery. Al-Balaoui stated that protecting public funds and addressing financial corruption crimes is a top priority for the Public Prosecution, through the enforcement of relevant laws and the diligent handling of complaints and reports.
