Algeria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Boudari, has confirmed that his ministry is working to develop university sports and make it a key element in creating a pool of elite athletes.

Speaking at the opening of a seminar on university sports at the Faculty of Medicine in Algiers on Saturday, Boudari said that “we are committed to making university sports, its development, and its revival an essential element in creating a pool of elite athletes that will give a good image of sports in our country.”

Boudari also revealed that a strategic plan is being developed to develop university sports. The plan has two strategic axes: supporting the National Federation of University Sports to fulfill its mission and making sports a means of social animation and cohesion.

“We will launch the university sports competitions on September 19th, thus fulfilling the outcomes of the Council of Ministers and the recommendations of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to revive them,” Boudari added.
