Tehran is reportedly ignoring international appeals to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and resume nuclear talks with the United States. According to diplomatic sources, Western nations are preparing to issue new directives that would allow IAEA inspectors to assess Iran’s nuclear stockpile situation ahead of a forthcoming meeting.
The IAEA has recently stated that inspections in Iran have not fully resumed, and estimates of the country’s enriched uranium stockpile remain unchanged. A confidential report indicated that Iran has yet to grant IAEA inspectors access to nuclear sites allegedly targeted in the past. Verification of the enriched uranium stockpile is reportedly overdue.
The report, addressed to member states, emphasized that the denial of access to these nuclear materials in Iran has significantly hampered the verification process. It stressed the urgency of conducting this verification as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, asserted that Iran seeks a peaceful nuclear agreement, stating, “We are not seeking nuclear weapons and are ready to reassure the world.” He added that Tehran had received contradictory messages from Washington through a third party.
The situation remains tense as international pressure mounts on Iran to fully cooperate with the IAEA and address concerns regarding its nuclear program. The coming weeks will likely be crucial in determining the future trajectory of the Iranian nuclear issue.
