Algeria and UK Sign Agreement on Advanced Digital Forensics

Algiers – The Algerian Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UK Home Office to bolster operational partnerships and enhance the capabilities of Algerian police officers and technicians in advanced digital forensics analysis. The agreement was announced in a statement released by the DGSN on Saturday.

The signing of the MOU coincided with a recent working visit to the United Kingdom by the Director General of Algerian National Security, Ali Badaoui, who led a delegation of senior police officials. The visit aimed to “strengthen bilateral cooperation mechanisms in the policing field,” according to the statement.

The MOU was signed by Director General Badaoui and the UK’s Minister of State for Borders and Immigration, Alex Norris, in the presence of the Algerian Ambassador to the UK, Nourredine Yazid. The agreement will focus on strengthening operational partnerships and developing the skills of Algerian police personnel in advanced digital fingerprint analysis. It will also facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge in identification and verification technologies, aligning with current challenges and the evolution of modern technologies in this area.

During the visit, the Director General and his delegation visited the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) in London. They were briefed on the “United Kingdom’s experience in combating crime, as well as the digital systems used by the agency in analyzing criminal data and exchanging information.” The Director General also outlined the “operational approach of the Algerian police in combating all forms of crime, particularly transnational organized crime.”

The working visit provided an opportunity to “strengthen the strong ties between the police forces of both countries and expand the frameworks of joint cooperation in areas related to combating organized crime and exchanging operational expertise,” the statement concluded.
