El Illizi: Massive Cigarette Smuggling Attempt Foiled

El Illizi, Algeria – Algerian customs officials in El Illizi have successfully thwarted a large-scale cigarette smuggling operation. The operation, conducted by the Regional Directorates of Customs in El Illizi and Laghouat, resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of contraband.

According to a statement released by the General Directorate of Customs earlier today, authorities seized 13,000 packs of cigarettes of foreign origin and 1,200 packets of ‘Moassel’ (flavored tobacco). The operation took place specifically in the Djanet region, where the multi-task force in Bordj El Haouas successfully intercepted the smugglers.

In addition to the seized goods, the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt was confiscated, and two individuals were apprehended. These individuals have been handed over to the relevant judicial authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Separately, in the Laghouat region, customs officials achieved another success. The multi-task force in Chlalat Al Adhaoura seized 18 slabs of processed cannabis, weighing approximately 9.58 kilograms. Two suspects were arrested, and the vehicle used in this smuggling attempt was also impounded.

The General Directorate of Customs emphasized that these operations are part of the ongoing efforts of the Algerian customs service to protect the nation and combat various forms of smuggling. These seizures highlight the commitment of Algerian customs to upholding the law and preventing the illicit trade of goods across its borders.

The authorities have reiterated their determination to continue these operations and ensure the safety and security of the country.
