Algiers – The National Gendarmerie has launched an urgent investigation into a video circulating on social media platforms allegedly showing a citizen being assaulted by a member of the force. The announcement was made today by the Gendarmerie leadership.

According to a statement, specialized units are currently gathering information and meticulously investigating the facts surrounding the incident to determine responsibility and implement the necessary legal measures. The investigation aims to ascertain the authenticity of the video and the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

The Gendarmerie leadership emphasized that if the allegations in the video are proven true, it represents an isolated incident and does not reflect the principles of the National Gendarmerie, which is known for its discipline, protection of citizens, and safeguarding of their rights. The statement further conveyed a firm rejection of any actions that could tarnish the reputation of the institution or weaken the bond of trust between the Gendarmerie and the public.
