Algeria’s AI and Math Schools: Shaping Future Leaders

Algiers – As the world accelerates towards digital transformation and a knowledge-based economy, Algeria has launched strategic educational initiatives, notably the National Higher School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSI) and the Higher School of Mathematics (EMS). These institutions are envisioned as forging a new generation of scientific leaders poised to spearhead the digital economy and develop a national knowledge infrastructure to meet future challenges.

Established in 2021, these schools have evolved beyond traditional academic roles to become national pillars in nurturing talent. They are designed to guide Algeria’s digitization and technological transformation, contributing to an economy rooted in innovation and advanced technologies.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, emphasized that the graduating class of 2026, comprising 157 students from both schools, will be offered direct employment contracts upon graduation. Minister Baddari made the announcement during the inauguration of a “Job Fair” at the Sidi Abdallah Science and Technology Park, alongside the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki. This initiative aims to strengthen ties between universities and the economic sector, transforming higher education outputs into a productive force within the national market.

Baddari clarified that these contracts will be with national economic and service institutions. This move aims to foster an environment conducive to innovation and encourage entrepreneurial ventures in artificial intelligence, smart industry, and digitization, aligning with the rapidly evolving global landscape in these sectors.

While international benchmarks suggest that retaining specialized talent requires more than just immediate post-graduation employment, Algeria is hopeful that these institutions will provide a solid base for the future. The focus remains on providing a comprehensive system of opportunities to support and retain this new generation of experts.
