National University Competition to Boost Energy Security

Algiers – A national university competition aimed at strengthening energy security and fostering innovation has been launched, DZWatch has learned. The competition, titled “IGENTTE Revolutionising the Energy Sector Algeria 2026,” is organized by the Directorate of Student Life in coordination with the National Office of University Services.

Kassadi Merbah University of Ouargla will host the event from February 1st to 3rd, 2026, at the university’s recreation center in the University Pole 03. This competition is part of the annual program of scientific, cultural, and sports activities for the year 2025-2026, providing a national platform for innovative students to address energy challenges across various fields and applications.

The competition aims to be a national platform for transforming ideas into solutions, offering a dedicated student space for developing innovative projects that support energy security and promote sustainability. Under the theme “A Vision for Transforming Ideas into Solutions, and Students into Change Makers,” the competition seeks to inspire a new generation of innovators capable of providing creative solutions in the energy sector, including oil and gas, renewable energy, and supporting technologies.

The event presents an opportunity for creativity, collaboration, and design to converge in a competitive environment, opening doors to discovering talents capable of leading the energy transition in Algeria. The competition follows a structured scientific and organizational path, beginning with participating teams submitting project proposals that include a problem statement, proposed solution, feasibility study, and expected impact. After evaluating all submissions, the best ideas that meet the competition’s objectives are selected. The qualified teams will benefit from guidance workshops provided by experts to improve the quality of their projects and strengthen their technical and scientific aspects.

The final stage culminates in the presentation of the top ten projects before a specialized judging panel at the University of Ouargla, followed by an official ceremony to award the winners. The competition seeks to promote innovation by stimulating new solutions in the energy sector, connecting young talents with industry leaders, and supporting sustainability through the development of impactful projects. DZWatch will continue to provide updates on this important initiative.
