Gara Djebilet Iron Ore Mine Set to Commence Operations in Early 2026

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has instructed authorities to begin exploitation of iron ore reserves at the Gara Djebilet mine in the first quarter of 2026. The directive was issued during a Council of Ministers meeting held earlier today, Sunday.

President Tebboune emphasized that the commencement of operations at Gara Djebilet will signal a new Algerian direction, solidifying the principle of economic sovereignty and diversifying the nation’s resources beyond hydrocarbons. He underscored the project’s strategic importance in bolstering the national economy and reducing dependence on oil and gas revenues.

The Gara Djebilet iron ore mine, located in the Tindouf province, holds significant potential for Algeria’s industrial development. The project is expected to generate thousands of jobs and contribute substantially to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
